Duck ♥ Teslacoil – Teaser

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Crazy Kwanzaa, and Best of Winter Solstices to all! Everyone here at Base14 would like to show our sincere appreciation for all our readers and passersby this holiday season, and give to you something we feel is very special. It’s a first look at our newly-announced animated film: Duck ♥ Teslacoil.

This teaser is the first few shots of the new film, before much has a chance to get started. That’s all we can really show for now. To see how the rest unfolds, you’ll have to wait until the film hits festivals this Spring. Screenings will be announced as they are confirmed, and hopefully there will be several. Until then, we’ll be featuring additional content on the site like concept art, character bios and interviews in preparation for the movie’s Spring run. So grab an RSS feed and keep checking back! And happy holidays!

In the Beginning – Santa vs Penguins

Well, things are busting with holiday cheer around here, and there’s no better way to spread that cheer on to you than with a digital holiday greeting card! But this one is particularly special.

While going through old data files this summer, we stumbled upon the very first Flash animation ever produced by Base14! This is the one that started it all, folks. I made this back in December of 2003, when I was a senior in High School. At the time, I was blindly stumbling my way through Flash, and consider it a miracle I accomplished this in two weeks. But now I yield it like a deadly ninja star… it’s amazing how far we’ve come! So give it a spin and feel the joy of what would be the first step on a long road to animation enlightenment!

And you’ve probably also noticed the strange weather we’re having here in Base14land – it’s snowing! Makes me want to pour some hot chocolate and eat something with sprinkles. Mmm… sprinkles.

Note: You may experience sluggish graphic performance due to the snowflakes. If so, jump on over to YouTube to watch the video snowflake-free.

The Gauntlet

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I’ve been trying to release new comics on Fridays, but since this one is holiday-related, I thought I could deliver it a day earlier. In hindsight, I find it odd I wrote a Thanksgiving comic with no reference to turkeys… because those are dang funny birds. Ah, well… enjoy!

“Look at you, you’re nothing but skin and bones! Better make that four.”

Projected Winner

How did everyone’s election night turn out? Man, it was like New Years, Christmas and the Fourth of July smashed together in a flurry of numbing statistical figures and political pundits. Well, here’s my little salute of such a historical night.

It’s Business Time

Well, this whole week has been a blast down here at SCAD, as we celebrate the 2008 Savannah Film Festival, an event full of proud producers, witty directors, talented actors and wide-eyed students. And of course if you’re going to make the most of all the movers and shakers running around, you need to carpet bomb the place with business cards.

Good thing I just got in a shipment of brand new Base14 mini cards this Monday, thanks to our good friends at Moo Printing. Their mini cards are half the size of standard business cards and can have as many different designs as you’d like. So I made two varieties: the official corporate brand Base14 card, and the cuter cartoon design. Who is that small blue character you might ask? Well, we’ll be revealing that in the not-too-distant future. Consider this an early viral marketing campaign. Continue Reading »

So Long, Purdue. Hello Savannah!

As the wise Rafiki once so eloquently put it “Ahhh. Change is good.” And here at Base14 we couldn’t agree more. Change is a strong theme for the company today as I, Tyler, officially graduated from Purdue University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Graphics Technology. Thanks Purdue! Now it’s on to bigger and better things down in Savannah, Georgia where I’ll be attending Savannah College of Art and Design for a Master’s Degree in Film and Television. This can only mean good things for Base14, as my newfound skills in directing and producing will undoubtedly lead to continuously better film productions. Of course we here at Base14 would like to thank all our fans and supporters during our stint here in West Lafayette, and encourage you to keep in touch. Purdue will always be recognized as the spark that gave life to the multimedia development diversity of Base14.

“Ara” Movie Premiere Video

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

To kick off the week right, I’ve uploaded an abridged version of the “Ara” movie premiere / 411 presentation that our group hosted on April 17th. Now you can relive all the magic and the splendor! To keep the length and (more importantly) the file size down, I cut out the parts where we show the trailer, premiere the movie, and answer questions. The full unabridged version will be included as an extra feature on the Ara DVD, along with many other very cool things. For now though, enjoy the recap!
