The Great Rightfield Chalking of ’07

Well, the Great Rightfield Chalk Comic successfully made it through the day. It seemed to be well-received and thus far no one has been arrested. Let no man question the fact that Rightfield went out with some serious style.

This was no easy feat. After surveying the proposed area, I drew the comic in Illustrator and mapped it out into a tiny grid system. I printed miniature versions of the comic on sheets of paper so every person could see how the grid transferred onto the pavement. After that, we began drawing. It took five people two hours to complete the chalking, and we went through roughly eight sticks of jumbo chalk. See piccies!

Aww, It’s Just The Botany Club

Hey all! I don’t have much time to go into detail tonight, but I did want to get up the very first Base14 Comic (and last Rightfield). This strip can also be seen LARGER THAN LIFE right outside the Class of 50 Lecture Hall at Purdue University. At least until the next rain washes it away. For those of you looking for more Rightfield, I got your link right here. More details and photos coming tomorrow! Enjoy!

Base14 Comic 001

First Post!!1

Hello everyone and welcome to the brand spankin’ new Base14 Website! We’ve come a long way since our first days on the web three long years ago, and I think there’s a lot to show for it. Base14 Website Version 3.0 is totally fresh, with plenty of dynamic, interesting content to keep you coming back for more. Here’s our main highlights:

The Base14 Blog is your number one source for Base14-related production news and updates. This clean, sophisticated, and powerful WordPress blog will follow Base14 though projects and events and feature special behind-the-scenes looks at upcoming releases!

Base14 Comics is the official successor to Rightfield, a popular daily comic strip that ran in the Purdue Exponent last year. Base14 Comics will adapt the comedic style of Rightfield to the web format, embedding each strip directly into the blog engine so every comic is fully integrated with comments and RSS!

The Base14 Gallery will feature new, easier ways to view past Base14 projects. Starting with a webreel of popular Base14 video productions, it will eventually branch out to feature all genres of our work, including print design, web design and traditional media.

So sit back, relax and enjoy all the new Base14 site has to offer! It may be small now, but as time goes on this will grow to be a rich and formidable site. And who knows, maybe one day we might even turn over a profit.
