Exploring ever deeper into the wonderful world of knits, I came up with this jacket design. The body is made from hand-dyed fleeceback knit, and the ruffled insets are made of a delightfully patterned woven cotton. Like all of my favorite designs, the idea came to me in a dream. The original had an inset ruffle down the centerback instead of at the shoulder, but after I had completed my first fitting muslin I decided to redesign. Many pattern drafts later I had finalized this design.
Special thanks to May Yen for sharing her astounding beauty with us.

Alysha here again, and today I’m showcasing a new, experimental accessories collection from Base14. It features deerskin lace with hand rustication combined with silk ribbon and sterling silver. It is a vintage inspired story of small treasures. My goal was to experiment with the play between the matte and shiny materials. As always, construction and finishing is done by hand. Ordering information available upon request, just send me an email.

As promised, here is the brand new Base14 shirt! This one features a delightfully fun print of two little kites and the tangles that bring them together. The back will feature the Base14 clothing logo on the shoulder. Just like our previous, limited edition shirt, this one will be hand silk screened with the utmost care and love. But unlike the I Like Bike shirt, this beauty is available to everyone! That’s right, we are now officially accepting pre-orders so that you can own your very own Base14 T-shirt. The shirts will be for sale for $10 each, but if you pre-order you will only have to pay $7. “Seven dollars for a hand screened shirt? She must be crazy!” you say. But no, I just want everyone to enjoy the fledgling efforts of our darling brand. To pre-order just email me (alysha at base14.com). Let me know size and quantity desired, and you will be informed when the shirts are ready. You will not be billed until after the shirts have been printed. We will be taking pre-orders up until February 13th, and will begin taking regular orders once the prints have been made and pre-orders shipped. Direct all questions to the same email.

I am pleased to release the first experimental efforts from the apparel department here at Base14. Fresh from our studio is this hand silk screened T-shirt. The old fashioned bike design was painted on to the screen by hand and all the shirts were screened separately by yours truly. The back features the lovely apparel version of the Base14 logo in a fun shoulder tattoo placement. Unfortunately, this was an experimental and extremely limited printing. The few shirts printed were given to Base14 staff. Sorry guys, none for sale. (Unless there is a manic wave of requests for a reprint. Which we might be able to arrange.) But the good news is that we will soon be accepting pre-orders for the next shirt. Stay tuned for fresh posts.
Special Thanks to Giuliana Kano for sharing her modeling tallents with us. Gorgeous.

It is the distant future. The year 2000… Things are very different since the robotic uprising of the mid-nineties…
– Flight of the Conchords
Halloween is almost here, folks. And here at Base14 we couldn’t help but salute the much-loved HBO comedy show, Flight of the Conchords. If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last two years, you’ll know that FotC made robots cool again with their aptly titled song and music video: Robots. So of course, just as many other FotC fans are doing this season, I had to make my own Robo-Boogie Costume. The best part is: I’ve documented the entire process below, so everyone at home can follow along!

Alysha here again to breathe life into this Ara-saturated blog. As you may or may not know, I am currently majoring in apparel design. My final project for the year was to make an accessory. While my classmates made hats and handbags, I decided that I was in need of a chic pair of gladiators. As soon as I equipped myself with some leather and a $5 spool of heavyweight thread I was ready to get cracking. The design and pattern were pretty much made up as I went along. I must admit that they turned out well considering I know nothing about making shoes and did not have appropriate tools or machines available to me. If you like what you see, then keep looking out for Base14 Outfitters.
